FUNK AND FOLK ART
My work has always been
influenced by my surroundings.
Having made several moves in the past few years, my paintings
are becoming a wonderful mix of locations and influences.
The mountains and woods
of North Carolina.
Southern folk art--it's
creativity and self-expression.
Cambridge MA graffiti!
Chicago's contemporary
art scene.
Buffalo houses--always
close to my heart.
Now my childhood is peeking
into my work.
Remember when we were free-range children? Will our future generations
ever have that luxury?
Technique-wise, the canvas
and the line have crept into my work.
It all began with a simple desire to sew on my paintings. Sewing
had been my first 'media,' and I wished to express that side of
myself. You can't sew on watercolor paper, take my word for it.
So I moved to canvas and stitched my first lines on many paintings
in in the Fusion
Art series.
Now that I am working on heavily textured
paint, I am applying my lines with a syringe. Now the line is
a dominant element in my new work.
